THE ECUADORIAN CUSTOMS SERVICE INFORMS:

 
 

PERSONAL EFFECTS OF PASSENGERS.

1.- Personal effects of Passengers.-  Are the baggages carried by them an that contain new and uses goods from which the passengers might need to use during the trip:

The following will be considered personal effects (new or used):

  • Clothing, toiletries, personal hygiene items, jewelry, imitation jewelry, personal and house decorations.
  • Books, magazines, photographic printed material, written or handwritten documents.
  • Food and utensils for children traveling with the passenger.
  • Tools and equipment necessary for the performance of professional activities (only those that are portable and easily transported), which will have to be justified. Clothing used by artists, theater companies, and circus or similar.
  • Medicines or psychotropic substances accompanied by its medical prescription. Wheel chairs, crutches, orthopedic elements and similar objects, only used by one person; additional goods for medical control and transportation, blood pressure, temperature and glucose meter, among others.
  • Camping equipment, luggage, hand bags or items used to transport personal belongings.
  • Phonograph records, recording tapes, video-cassettes, laser discs, music or data discs; rolls of film, carried by one person.
  • A maximum of 2 live house pets, subject to sanitary regulations.
  • A maximum of 2 musical instruments carried by one person.
  • Sport items that can be carried by one person.
  • Toys and accessories may be transported normally by one person.
  • In case of travelers over 18 years old, maximum 3 liters of alcoholic drinks and 20 packs of cigarettes.
  • A maximum of 6 digital memories for computer or photographic camera.
  • A maximum of 10 video games cassettes, CDs or similar.
  • Kitchen utensils (non-electric)
  • Maximum 3 portable electric kitchen appliances.
  • Portable garden tools.

 
 


In addition, travelers or heads of household may enter up to two (2) additional units, one (1) new and one (1) used, of the following portable articles:

-Photographic camera, video camera, mobile telephone, electronic agenda, portable or non portable video game, electronic calculator, portable computer and its accessories (mouse, headphone, keyboard and other)

Also, all travelers or head of household may enter up to one (1) unit, new or used, of the following:

-Portable image reproducer, sound or video player, portable television up to 22 inches.
-Desktop and its accessories (mouse, headphones, camera, keyboard and other).
- Prismatic equipment, projector, monitor up to 22 inches, printer, telephone or fax.

Should the traveler bring goods in excess of the limits mentioned above, these will be considered taxable items and will be required to pay customs duties.

In case the person who is entering taxable items is underage, the parents or his/her representatives will be responsible for paying the taxes.

Additionally, one item could be considered as a personal effect, such as a set or kit, which are not specified in the above lists, which doesn’t have restrictions either for volume, quantity or size, and its value is not over US$500.

2.- IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS:

Several goods can be nationalized by paying taxes in the International Passenger Lounge whose value FOB does not exceed US$2000; or ONE GOOD whose value FOB is OVER US$2000

It will not be permitted to nationalize through International Passenger Lounge, various merchandises whose FOB value is over US$2000. They will have to be transported to a temporary storage place for regular dispatch, and follow regular customs formalities measures.

3.- ACCORDING TO THE CUSTOMS LAW, THE ECUADORIAN CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION SHALL TAKE GOODS THAT ARRIVE UNDER THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:

  • Goods that should have been declared and were not declared by the traveler.
  • Goods that are against the security, health and moral of the community, or narcotic or psychotropic substances.
  • Goods that violate intellectual property rights.

WARNING

Once the traveler hands the Simplified Customs Declaration to the customs service personnel, it can NOT BE CHANGED.

If there is a false statement, the penalties established in the Organic Law of Customs will be applied.

The traveler can not declare as his own, third party luggage or transport goods that do not belong to him/her.
