HOUSEHOLD ITEMS AND WORK EQUIPMENT

 

 

 

WHAT ARE HOUSEHOLD ITEMS AND WORK EQUIPMENT?

 

HOUSEHOLD_ITEMS: All those daily elements, used in the family environment. These elements could be: electrical appliances, clothes, bathroom articles, kitchen, dining room furniture, living room or bedrooms, any home possessions, computers, decoration, paintings, dishes, books, toys, and even a vehicle

WORK_EQUIPMENT: Is the group of utensils, tools, and/or professional equipment, new or used, closely linked with the execution of a specific activity, profession, art or occupation, which the traveler has performed in a foreign location or declare that will use in the national territory of Ecuador..

 

 

 
WHO IS CAPABLE OF BRINGING IN HOUSEHOLD ITEMS AND WORK EQUIPMENT?
 
•Any person, Ecuadorian or foreigner, who decides to permanently reside in Ecuador..

• In case of being Ecuadorian immigrant, in order to recourse to this benefit, must have in consideration the following:

• Have stayed out of the country, with legal residency or not, for at least a period of 12 months, and during this last year the arrivals to the country can’t exceed 60 days (this includes holidays and any obligatory break).

• The Ecuadorian Customs Services will corroborate through the Migratory Movement Registry Office, the stay time of the traveler outside the country. Those who haven’t registered their exits of the country, must request the National Migrant Department (Secretaría Nacional del Migrante (SENAMI) a certificate that proves his/her staying out of the country for longer than a year..
 

• In the case of foreigners, they must count with a visa type 10I or 12 N.I. in order to recourse to this benefit. In case of having a visa type 12 N.I., the person must present the respective employment contract in Ecuador.

 


IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS:

• In order to import household items and/or work equipment, the family group (married couple and children), will be considered as one person, even if the couple is under the regime of goods separation.

• The goods that are part of the household items must belong to the family members that return to the country, and the amount of items must be equal to the number of members of the family.

 • All appliances or machines that need an engine to work, and that can be crewed, will not be considered as household items or work equipment. This means motorcycles, four wheelers, wave runners, lawnmowers, among others.

• Household items and/or work equipment may arrive to the country 2 months before or 6 months after the owner of the items.

 • In case the household items and/or work equipment arrive out of the established time, or in case the traveler doesn’t accomplish with the established minimum stay time outside the country, the imported goods such as household items will lose the right of tax exoneration.

• The cost of the goods that make the household items is not under a limit, except if the good is a vehicle.

• Those goods that the Ecuadorian Customs Service consider are not part of what is defined as household items, must accomplish all the pertinent customs formalities.


 
 

WHAT TO DO IN ORDER TO BRING IN HOUSEHOLD ITEMS?

1. Make a detailed list of all the goods that are part of your household items, indicating amounts, conditions (new or used), and referential value of each of these items.

 2.  Legalize the list of goods through a Consulate of your jurisdiction or at any public notary in Ecuador. In both cases you must express your sworn will and of your family members, of establishing permanent residency in Ecuador and the number of family members that return with you (family group).

 3. Hire a transportation service (aerial, terrestrial, maritime) of your trust. The company that you hire for these services must give you the Transportation Documents or Loading Knowledge, which will be used to reclaim the goods.

 4. Ask for the Migration Certificate (Migratory Movement) or the certificate given by SENAMI (Secretaría Nacional del Migrante), according to what corresponds.

5. Ask for the liberation of taxes to the Manager of the Customs District where the household items and/or work equipment have to arrive. 6. Hire the services of a Customs Service Agent of your trust, in order to clear customs of your household items and/ or your work equipment. Consult the list of Customs Agents in our website.

 

 

 

 

VEHICLE AS PART OF HOUSEHOLD ITEMS

• Any vehicle which cost is maximum $20,000 USD can be considered as part of the household items, value EXW * (or its equivalent in other currency) and a cubic capacity not higher than 3,000 C.C., which must be loaded together with all the other household items.

 
• In case the imported vehicle, as part of the household items, presents a cost higher than $20,000 USD (EXW value) or in case it doesn’t accomplish any of the established requirements, it won’t have any right to the complete or partial exoneration of taxes.  To nationalize this good, traveler must pay all the taxes and accomplish all the corresponding formalities of a common importation process.
 

The EXW value will be established according to what SENAE (Servicio Nacional de Aduana del Ecuador) indicates.

WORK EQUIPMENT AS PART OF YOUR HOUSEHOLD ITEMS

• It’s considered work equipment, as part of your household items, tools, equipment and utensils that belong to any activity related with the traveler’s profession; being this superior education, intermediate, artisan or empirical.

• The working tools not necessarily have to be portable, they can also be stationary tools or steady tools that are susceptible and can be dismantled or detached. Tools, structures, machines or machinery that can be use for small industry or business
